The Wake Edit Presents: The Yacht Bro Starter Pack

A Guide to Ultimate Luxury for the Man on Vacation

yacht bro starter pack luxury vacation style

Before we get into what a man on vacation should wear, let us clarify: being a yacht bro doesn’t actually mean dressing like a bro—it’s elevated destination dressing. Ditch the basketball shorts, baseball caps, and Rainbow Sandals, for some of these chicer yacht-bro-core items, so you can look like you’re owning the yacht, versus just stepping onto one.

A Matching Set from Tombolo

An obligatory purchase for any aspiring yacht bro is a Tombolo set. Find what creative embroidery speaks to you; whether it’s lobsters, oysters, or a Casablanca-style terry cloth set, you truly can’t go wrong. You don’t have to worry about what top or bottom to match—it’s all done for you. Plus, the fabrics, linen or terry-cloth, are perfect for soaking up the sweat and sun.

Boat Loafers from Loro Piana

For the epitome of quiet luxury, we turn to Loro Piana. It embodies status, but in an understated kind of way. From its pastel sweaters to luxe accessories, you’ll find something to add to your starter pack. But our personal favorite and a must-have for your next destination are the Sea-Sail Walk Loafers. Think of these as upgraded, chic, Sperry, but for the yachters who are docked in Monaco or St. Barths.

Orlebar Brown’s Bulldog Swim Shorts

A good bathing suit goes a long way (but not that long—please get rid of your crusty old bathing suit from the 10th grade). An Orlebar Brown bathing suit is the upgrade you need. And trust me, with two brothers, I know that the built in mesh is a must-have for your next pair of trunks, and Orlebar has you covered in that department with their Bulldog swim shorts. These suits are a pretty penny, but if you’re going below deck, it’s worth the investment.

James Perse’s Relaxed Linens

For the understated and not so flashy yachter, a James Perse linen pant and top is the vibe. If you’re strolling down the streets in the South of France, every chic man you pass is in a linen suit. This could (and will) be you. The  lightweight linen shirt and matching relaxed linen pants  are perfect for a leisurely brunch on the dock, or dress it up for a night out with a Gucci loafer.

Manolo Blahnik Sandals

The staple of any yacht bro is a good sandal—and no, this isn’t a Haviana moment (though we love them for a beach day). To achieve the total yacht-approved look, there really is only one right choice: a pair of Manolo Blanhik sandals.  The Otawi Crossover Sandals are the perfect day-to-night shoe. Wear them on deck or out to a chic coast-side dinner with a linen Tombolo suit. If you’re something a little more casual and flip-floppy, the Siracusa is also a great choice.

The Prada Crochet Fedora

The whole point of going on a beach or boat vacay is to get that Vitamin D, and this Prada Crochet Fedora will help you do just that. With the crochet cut outs and rattan brim, you’ll still get a nice tan on your face while attempting to protect yourself from the sun.

A Pair of Ray-Ban Wayfarers

If The Rich European Kid wears Ray Ban’s, then you should too. If you’re not familiar with this internet yachtie-private-jet-setting influencer, well you should be. He’s serving up final boss looks in his Zaya Bio-based Ray-Ban’s. To match his look, get the Polished Havana frames, and make sure to buy at least two pairs in case one flies off the tender on your way to the yacht.

The Rolex Datejust Watch

No yacht bro is complete without his Rolex. Vintage or new, you really can’t go wrong with the ice on your wrist. My favorite—to match the color of the sea you’re sailing—is the Datejust 41 with a blue dial and white gold and steel band. Plus, the Datejust isn’t just serving looks; you can also swim, snorkel, shower, and even dive in this bad boy, which is waterproof up to 330 feet. Before you jump in, remember it is not a professional dive watch. You should avoid high-impact water sports (like jet skiing) or deep-sea scuba diving. For those activities, you’d want a Rolex Submariner or Sea-Dweller.

Datejust 41, $11,650
